It’s always good to chat with a fellow Bernie Bro. As far as the “meme candidate” thing goes, it’s worth acknowledging that Donald Trump had spent decades building up a personal brand and had near-universal name recognition when he entered the race. While his campaign was fueled by memes and shitposters, he had also established himself among the right-wing’s racist fringe by being the “Barack Obama was born in Kenya” guy. I remember one White House Correspondents Dinner where Obama specifically called out Trump; he violated one of the biggest rules of politics, “never punch down” because his acknowledgement only gave Trump further credibility among those who hated the Obama Presidency. Andrew Yang is relatively unknown, as is Pete Buttigieg. But I do think that Buttigieg’s rhetorical style has a much higher chance of catching on with the electorate.
